Supreme Council of Tourism

President Abdel Fattah el Sisi issued, a presidential decree, stipulating the restructuring of the Supreme Council of Tourism.
According to the presidential decree, the Supreme Council of Tourism is due to be under the chairmanship of the Egyptian President and membership of, the Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, and the Ministers of Defense and Military Production, Youth and Sports and the Foreign Ministry and ministries of Interior and Development and Domestic Development and International Cooperation, Culture and Communication and Information Technology, Civil Aviation, Finance, Archeology, Tourism, Investment and Head of the General Intelligence Service, and Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority, and Chairman of the Egyptian Federation of Chamber of Tourism, along with two tourism experts to be selected by the Minister of Tourism.
The Council is to propose policies that should be adhered to so as to activate tourism movement in Egypt, follow up implementation, suggest necessary legislations and regulations for boosting tourism activities, adoption of the general plan of new tourism zones, find appropriate solutions to the problems and difficulties hindering tourism progress, coordinate efforts and mechanisms of the various ministries to fulfill development plans, determine the role of each ministry activate tourism, assess activities and performance of the tourism sector.
The decree stipulates that all the Council's resolutions after being approved by the President of the Republic, is mandatory to the various ministries and administrative bodies. The Council holds a semi annual meetings, and has a permanent technical secretariat formed in terms of a decision by the Minister of Tourism.
First meeting
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi chaired on Tuesday 7/2/2017 the first meeting of the Supreme Tourism Council.
The Tourism Minister reviewed travel indexes of 2016, which included the number of tourists, the average number of tourist nights, the volume of tourist spending and hotel occupancy rates, said presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef.
The meeting, he added, also took up goals the tourism sector was working to achieve this year.
Plans for new tourist sites in Egypt were also probed, Youssef said.
Figuring high in the meeting were also challenges facing the flow of tourism, the spokesman further said.
The council also discussed coordination mechanisms among the different ministries to implement tourism development plans, he added.
It also tackled the possibility of implementing the open skies' policy with the aim of encouraging private airlines to increase their flights to Egypt, Youssef noted.
Ways of upgrading medical and religious tourism were also tackled, the spokesman said.
Sisi stressed the vital importance of the tourism sector, which plays an important role in creating jobs for youth, Youssef added.
He gave his directives to up efforts to promote tourist attractions in Egypt, he noted.
