It gives me pleasure at the outset to express my sincere appreciation and thanks for the warm reception since our arrival to your friendly country, with which we have historical relations and strong partnership in various fields, reflecting the momentum in bilateral relations, and the high level of coordination at various regional and international issues.
Ladies and gentlemen,
I discussed today with President Macron means of boosting cooperation between the two countries on various political, strategic, economic and cultural levels, as we agreed on intensifying consultation and coordination towards issues of priority for our countries. Our talks today confirmed the strong base of work to continue to improve various areas of cooperation to a higher level, in order to achieve the mutual interests of our two peoples.
The economic part of the mutual relationship has acquired a higher priority during our discussions today, where I reviewed with President Macron the measures taken in the Egyptian economic reform program, the positive results achieved to restore high growth rates, increasing of direct foreign investments and support of social security system for the neediest people, as well as, providing many investment opportunities, especially in the framework of the great national projects that are implemented by Egypt and acquiring the attention of French business circle. We also witnessed the signing of a series of agreements, memorandums of understanding and intention declarations, reaching about 400 million Euros in the fields of traditional and renewed energy, infrastructure, social security and transportation with its various branches maritime, land transport and Metro.
I should also point out that the cultural, and tourist and educational file was present in our talks today, where we agreed to declare 2019 as the year of culture and tourism between France and Egypt to reflect the depth of the joint cultural relations, especially in the light of the great french interest, which we appreciate and are proud of, of the Egyptian civilization in its various historical phases, the pharaonic in particular, coincides with the 150th anniversary of Suez Canal inauguration, as its development corridor acquire great importance in government plans, since the duplication of the waterway of the canal in 2015, to be the largest logistic hub for integrated services in the Middle East.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I discussed today with President Macron means of combating notorious terrorism, which Egypt and France suffered from its wickedness, and threatens the security and stability of the Middle East and the European continent, which is considered the biggest challenge that hinders our efforts to realize development, as we stressed the importance of unifying the international and regional efforts to deal with the shortcomings of combating this phenomenon.
We also discussed the developments in Libya, as realizing its stability and security has a special importance for the two states, with a view to its direct effect on the national security of Egypt, France and the Mediterranean area. We also tackled the successful Egyptian efforts in acheiving the Palestinian reconciliation, the importance to restore the momentum to resume the peace process, also the developments in Syria, Iraq and Sahel and Saharan area in the African continent, and exchanged views on ways of the comprehensive handling of the illegal immigration phenomenon, in addition to the relations between Egypt and the European Union after signing the partnership priorities document to enhance cooperation between both sides last July.
I am confident that our meeting today will be a new starting point to boost cooperation and partnership between our countries, as I stress our keenness to continue coordination and consultations to resume the implementation of what we agreed upon and translate it into practice, thus contributing to developing our joint relations on all levels.
In conclusion, I would like to renew, Mr. President, the invitation to visit Egypt in the nearest opportunity to continue the joint coordination, that contributes in achieving what we aspire of developing various fields of cooperation and realizing the interests of our two friendly peoples.
