Speech by H.E. President Sisi’s in inauguration of 21st session of Cairo International Conference, exhibition on Information, Communication Technology

Monday، 04 December 2017 - 04:20 PM

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We are gathering today to witness together the inauguration of the new session of such distinguished meeting and to review the achievements accomplished by the Information and communication technology sector within a year. This vital sector is a corner stone in the State’s plans for transformation into an integrated digital community. We also witness today the opening of the new international fair zone which is hosting the activities of this important meeting.

Brothers and Sisters,

We are gaining today the fruits of the various initiatives that we launched during the last few years in the field of ICT targeting a quantum leap in the Egyptian society through having technology in all the Egyptian governorates and providing the adequate environment that would help building youth capabilities and enhance the electronic design and industry field.

We are now witnessing the opening of new technological zones in Beni Suef and Sadat city  following  the ones opened  in Assiut and Burg El arab to contribute to the achievement of one of the State’s targets to develop various Egyptian governorates specifically, Upper Egypt , to provide youth with job opportunities  in their own governorates, to offer  sophisticated training programs for youth  capacity building to be qualified for work in  the international companies and to  provide the required infrastructure that would encourage international companies to work in these governorates.

I’d like to refer to the inauguration of Egypt-Cyprus-Greece creativity Center, opened during my last visit to Cyprus in the technological zone in Burg El-Arab, in order to carry out joint technological projects and exchange experience among the youth of the three countries. This proves, leaving no room for doubts, that technological zones are minarets for culture and civilization and not confined to technology. They promote communication among the different countries all over the world in the fields of creativity and entrepreneurship. Thus I ask you to continue the process of spreading technological zones all over Egypt as soon as possible to contribute to sustainable development as a whole.

With the inauguration of the electronics factory in the technological zone in Assiut, we are taking the first step towards developing the local electronics production and exporting Egyptian trademark products. This would highly empower Egypt in the markets of electronics and it would occupy the status it deserves in this industry.

،

 Ladies and Gentlemen,

As Information and communication technology is utilized in all aspects of life, so we have to support all the initiatives targeting the transfer towards a digital society through developing the national database system and establishing huge data centers and banks in addition to improving services offered to the citizens through digital payments.

Within this context, we launch today the e-tourist visa as a first step in the national integral project aiming to develop the technological mechanisms in the information centers of the Department of Passports, Immigration and Nationality, to build database and control monitoring systems that would enable data analysis all over Egypt. It will also provide the tools and machineries for the Egyptian embassies and consulates abroad to facilitate the issuance of visas in an efficient way to activate tourism and increase the number of tourists to Egypt.

I can see today the fruits of the creative ideas which prove that investing in the human beings and minds of the youth is the best investment. The main target is the youth so we should furnish them with the adequate environment to enable them to innovate.

This comes in accordance with what I previously declared during my meeting with the young innovators, in the graduation ceremony of the Future Technology Pioneers held last October, and which we call today “Future Programmers” program. This program focuses on training students on the latest technology and programming to embark with the international attitude towards inclusion of programming in all educational stages to acquire the skills of solving problems.

And within the framework of the vital role played by ICT in confronting international challenges and promoting economic development, to realize the Egyptian strategic objectives of sustainable development 2030, the Egyptian government is concluding an agreement with the U.N. to launch a regional Center for technological innovation in Egypt. This is the first unique center in Africa and the Middle East. Its first phase will focus on offering innovative solutions for the challenges confronted in education, health, industry and agriculture sectors.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

In spite of the difficulties and challenges Egypt is facing, it proceeds in various development rapidly, and has accomplished a lot, out of the belief that the sincere people of Egypt are capable of building a flourished future that is equal to the ancient great civilization of Egypt.

Finally, I‘d like to thank you for what has been accomplished during the last year and I confirm that the State is fully supporting this promising sector, wishing you all success.
