Wednesday، 06 December 2017 - 12:27 PM

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday 5/12/2017 phoned Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Teyyeb.

The two sides reviewed the latest developments on Jerusalem following US President Donald Trump's announcement to Middle East leaders that he intends to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Abbas reiterated that such move would harm security and stability in the region and the entire world.

For his part, the Grand Imam affirmed Al Azhar's full support for the Palestinian people and leadership in face of the US move.

He added that Al Azhar supports the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

He vowed to spare no effort to safeguard the holy city.
