Minister: Egypt founding member of International Solar Alliance

Saturday، 10 March 2018 - 03:59 PM

Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker said on Saturday 10/03/2018 that Egypt has become a founding member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), due to its rich renewable energy resources, especially solar energy and its location between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.

The minister made the remarks after signing the ISA framework agreement in the presence of Indian Ambassador in Cairo Sanjay Bhattacharyya.

Shaker noted that this step comes within the framework of the Egyptian government's keenness on expanding the use of renewable energy, especially solar energy applications.

The ISA aims to address major challenges related to solar energy and attract one trillion dollars from international institutions to finance solar energy programs, Shaker said.

Pointing out to the expected benefits of joining the alliance, Shaker said Egypt will be able to benefit from the alliance’s programs in solar energy fields, adding that the alliance will enable Cairo to boost its cooperation relations with the ISA’s member states.
