Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met on March 12th with the Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Martin Lomuro during his current visit to Juba as part of his African tour, which also includes a visit to Kenya. They discussed the developments of the national dialogue initiative in South Sudan and efforts to achieve peace in the country.
The Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Abu Zeid, said that the Minister of Cabinet Affairs started the meeting by welcoming the Egyptian Foreign Minister and his accompanying delegation, stressing the importance of the historical relations between their two countries.
Abu Zeid pointed out that the meeting dealt with the progress in the national dialogue initiative and the negotiation process among all parties in South Sudan, in addition to the results of the current negotiation path under the auspices of IGAD and the challenges facing it. In this regard, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs stressed his government's keenness on resolving all disputes with the Opposition and achieving comprehensive peace, development and stability in the country, explaining the positions of the different parties on the nature of the transitional period until the elections’ date.
The Foreign Ministry Spokesman added that the South Sudanese Minister also reviewed the government's vision of the solution by increasing the number of the government members and MPs to include representatives from the opposition, rejecting demands to change all state institutions during the transitional period, as this threatens the state stability and hinders the government’s tasks. He also expressed his country's aspiration for the Egyptian support for making the peace negotiations with the opposition a success, as well as its continued contacts with the international community to explain the actual developments in South Sudan.
For his part, Minister Shoukry affirmed Egypt's support for our brothers in South Sudan in order to achieve security and stability in the country, and stressed the continuation of the Egyptian efforts so as to ensure the success of the national dialogue initiative, in addition to providing the necessary support in the various development fields.
