Portuguese President visits Egypt

- President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received on Thursday Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa at the Presidential Palace as part of Sousa’s official visit to Egypt to discuss boosting cooperation and bilateral relations in various fields.
- President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Portuguese counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on Thursday 12/4/2018 started a tete-a-tete session of talks at Ittihadiya Presidential Palace.
Upon his arrival at the palace, the Portuguese leader was given an official reception ceremony in the presence of president Sisi.
The national anthems of the two countries were played.
Also, President Sisi shook hands with members of the delegation accompanying the Portuguese president.
Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa asserted on Thursday the importance of Egypt's relations with the European Union (EU).
De Sousa said his visit is the first by a Portuguese president to Egypt in 25 years, noting that Egypt and Portugal cooperate in the fields of economy, infrastructure, tourism, energy, water, governance and defense.
His remarks came during a joint press conference with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi at al Ittihadiya Palace.
De Sousa congratulated Sisi for being re-elected for a second term in office, adding that he is the first foreign president to visit Egypt after Sisi's 2018 election win.

- Egypt, Portugal sign cooperation protocol, MoU
President Abdel Fatah El Sisi and his Portuguese counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa attended on Thursday the signing of a cooperation protocol and a memo of understanding between Egypt and Portugal.
The memo of understanding was signed between head of the General Authority For Suez Canal Economic Zone Mohab Mamish and Portugal's Aicep Global company chairman Francisco Mendes Palma.
Also, the two leaders attended the signing of a cooperation protocol between Ain Shams University and Camoes languages institute.
The protocol was signed by President of Ain Shams University Abdel Wahab Ezzet and President of Porto University Sebastião Feyo de Azevedo.
