Sponsered by Sisi, 10 African delegations reach Egypt for Africa 2018 Forum in Sharm

Ten delegates from African countries; including Burundi, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Mozambique, Zambia and Eswatini, arrived on Thursday in Egypt to participate in Africa 2018 Forum, set for Sharm el Sheikh on Saturday and Sunday.

The forum, themed "Bold Leadership and Collective Commitment: Advancing Intra-African Investments", is held under the sponsorship of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

The forum is organized by the investment and foreign ministries and COMESA Regional Investment Agency (RIA).

In statements to MENA on Thursday, sources at the COMESA agency said that the forum will bring together 3,000 African and international figures, including heads of state and government.

The forum will discuss pumping new investments in Africa to boost economic growth and development, in addition to the establishment of joint projects, particularly in infrastructure, to support investment and trade among African states.

It will also mull enhancing the role of the African private sector to increase investment rates in the continent.

Participants will also discuss the execution of programs that encourage entrepreneurship and the adoption of programs that would increase youth’s participation in the African economy.

Empowering women in all fields of economic activity, considering them as active members in the process of developing Africa and achieving economic stability will also figure high at the meeting.

COMESA was formed in December 1994, replacing a Preferential Trade Area which had existed since 1981.

The member states of COMESA include Egypt, Kenya, Djibouti, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Sudan, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Burundi, the Comoros, Libya, Seychelles, Tunisia and Somalia.
