Culture min.: Egypt opens cultural portal with Africa

Egypt will launch a cultural portal with Africa within the framework of Egypt's chairmanship of the African Union in 2019, the culture minister said.

During a meeting on Sunday23/12/2018 with the parliament's Media, Culture and Antiquities Committee under Osama Heikal, Minister Inas Abdel Dayem said coordination is under way with the ministries of foreign affairs and finance to secure needed funds for getting African artistic bands to present shows in Egypt.

She noted that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi had announced the Upper Egypt city of Aswan as the capital of African culture.

She noted that the ministry will work hard to implement a "year of Africa" plan as of January.

She added that a film festival on women in Africa will be held, noting that the ministry will capitalize on the phenomenon of the sun alignment at the Abu Simbel temple.

She added that the Cairo Book Fair will celebrate this year the golden jubilee.

She uncovered there are some obstacles facing the ministry, including a budget deficit.

She noted that the ministry inaugurated four culture palaces and will restore four others within the coming two months.

She urged the parliament to support the ministry's budget.

She also said that the ministry will restore three theaters, noting that Naguib Mahfouz museum will be opened by the end of March.
