Antiquities Ministry: Roman-era bust seized in Salloum crossing

An antiquities unit and police force at Salloum crossing has seized an alabaster bust, dating back to the Roman era, the Antiquities Ministry announced on Monday 31/12/2018.

The ancient piece was in the possession of a passenger.

The bust was confiscated and sent to the ministry after a specialized archaeological committee proved its authenticity, said Hamdi Hamam, the head of the central administration for archaeological units at Egyptian ports.

For his part, Khalil Ramdan, supervisor of archaeological ports in Matrouh and Salloum, said the confiscated 27-cm high bust belongs to a woman in her 40s.
