Malawian FM confident of Egypt success as chair of AU in 2019

Malawian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Emmanuel Fabiano said Thursday he is confident that Egypt will achieve common African goals and ambitions during its chairmanship of the African Union (AU) in 2019.

Fabiano gave his remarks during a meeting with Egypt's new Ambassador to Malawi Hassan Shawky who handed him a copy of his credentials ahead of delivering them to Malawian President Peter Mutharika, according to a press release by the Foreign Ministry here.

Fabiano stressed that his country is looking forward to the coming meeting of the Egyptian-Malawian committee and to fostering bilateral cooperation in the energy and agricultural domains and giving a stronger impetus to joint trade and investments.

He also underscored the historical ties between both countries since the independence of Malawi in 1964.

Fabiano voiced his appreciation of Egypt's assistance to Malawi in capacity-building, especially the training courses organized by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD).

For his part, Shawky said he is looking forward to bolstering mutual cooperation at various levels.

He also asserted Egypt's commitment to promoting development, achieving economic integration and establishing peace and stability in Africa during its chairmanship of the AU in 2019.
