Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs Ambassador Hamdi Sanad Loza said Egypt treated on an equal footing all refugees regardless of their nationalities, adding the Egyptian government is also keen on providing international protection for them.
This came at a meeting with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi who is currently on a three-day visit to Egypt.
In a press release on Monday14/1/2019, the Foreign Ministry said that Grandi, during the meeting, praised efforts exerted by the Egyptian government in protecting refugees.
Grandi also expressed the UNHCR's appreciation of services offered by Egypt to refugees that place a great burden on the host country's economy in terms of strain on the resources and opportunities across the different sectors.
The two sides also discussed the root causes of the global problem of refugees and asylum seekers, topped by unemployment, poverty, rampant corruption and armed conflicts.
