Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad on Thursday said the government plan on cleaning relies on four programs, with a total amount of EGP 7.7 billion a year.
The sum includes service fees for residential, commercial and industrial units, she added.
In an Interpellation session organized by the parliament's Local Administration Committee, the minister revealed that the first program focuses on the development of infrastructure nationwide for the cleaning sector.
The cleaning system targets collecting EGP 2.3 billion from housing units, EGP 1.2 billion from commercial units, EGP one billion from the medical and industrial sectors and EGP one billion from the real estate tax sector, as well as EGP 2.2 billion from the Finance Ministry, she noted.
The plan's second program is based on financing operating contracts and the processes of garbage collection and transport, Fouad said.
The third program is based on making good use of investment opportunities provided by the private sector in the cleaning system, she noted.
The fourth program is based on social protection and the role of the civil society in the cleaning system, Fouad added.
Also, she pointed to close cooperation and coordination among different bodies to tackle the cleaning file, including the garbage problem.
