UNESCO launches Arabic version of its 6th report on science, technology on Thursday

An Arabic version of the 6th report of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on science and technology will be launched on Thursday 24/1/2019 during a ceremony to be hosted by the organization's regional bureau.

The report covers a five-year period from 2010 to 2015.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghafar, Chairman of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) Mahmoud Saqr and Director of UNESCO Regional Bureau for Sciences in the Arab States Ghaith Fariz will attend the event.

In a statement released on Monday21/1/2019, Saqr said the ceremony comes as part of cooperation between ASRT and UNESCO, noting that it is the first time for UNESCO to issue its science and technology report in the Arabic language.

He pointed out that the academy was responsible for translating the report from English to Arabic in a bid to enhance the spread of science and technology at both the local and international levels.

The translation of UNESCO report comes as part of a cooperation protocol signed between the two sides, he added.

Saqr also said that the report outlines a clear vision about the international scientific scene which was drawn up with the participation of more than 50 experts from various world countries, adding that it sets the stage for realizing more achievements towards the fulfillment of the sustainable development goals of the 2030 agenda.

Every five years, the UNESCO Science Report monitors the status of the support system for Science, technology and innovation (STI) around the world and analyses emerging trends. Its 6th report is titled the UNESCO Science Report: towards 2030.
