Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Friday 08/02/2019 said that Egypt pays great attention to joint Africa action, especially in light of its presidency of the African Union (AU) in 2019.

His remarks came during a meeting with South Africa's Foreign Minister Lindiwe Sisulu, on the sidelines of their participation in preparatory meetings of the AU Summit, set for the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on Sunday and Monday.

During the meeting, the two sides probed means of cementing bilateral cooperation and a number of regional issues of common interest, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said.

Out of its AU presidency, Cairo will cooperate with African countries to handle a raft of social and economic issues, as well as issues related to peace and security in the continent, the spokesman quoted Shoukry as saying.

Moreover, Egypt's top diplomat highlighted the depth of relations between the two countries, calling for pushing forward them at all levels, the spokesman noted.

In this regard, Shoukry stressed the need for the convocation of the Egypt-South Africa committee in the coming period, in addition to the exchange of high-profile visits, with a view to increasing cooperation between the two states, the spokesman said.

Concerning regional issues, the Egyptian foreign minister emphasized the significance of cementing bilateral coordination on the AU topics, notably infrastructure projects.
