Minister of Higher Education Tareq Shawqi discussed at a meeting with Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) Khaled Toukan means of cementing bilateral cooperation in the scientific research field.
The two sides talked about the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME), of which Egypt and Jordan are members, alongside other Middle Eastern states, the Higher Education Ministry said in a statement Friday.
With regard to SESAME, Shawqi said the project is meant to increase the usage of Synchrotron radiation in research and experimental science in the region.
The higher education minister and the JAEC head reviewed the possibility for wider participation of Egyptian researchers in the project, in addition to increasing the number of beneficiaries from SESAME services at Egyptian scientific research institutions.
Egypt is keen on supporting the project, for its key role in scientific research on medicine, pharmacy, physics, chemistry, materials science, archaeology, atomic science, and laser, the statement quoted Shawqi as saying.
He also called on officials responsible for the project to organize further workshops to raise awareness about the SESAME at Egyptian universities.
Meanwhile, Toukan said the project is conducting research on childhood cancer in the region.
He added that Jordan is willing to push forward joint cooperation with Egypt on scientific and technological research.
