Sisi voices Egypt's keenness on cementing ties with Iraq

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Saturday 23/03/2019 expressed Egypt's keenness on bolstering ties with Iraq in all domains.
In a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, currently on his first visit to Egypt since he assumed the post, Sisi said Mahdi's visit reflects the strength of relations between the peoples and governments of the two countries.
President Sisi also condoled with Mahdi over the death of scores of people in the sinking of a ferry in Mosul, expressing Egypt's solidarity with Iraq and its people.
President Sisi said the bilateral ties binding Egypt and Iraq are characterized by many historic and geographical dimensions.
Commenting on Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi’s first visit to Egypt since coming to office, Sisi said it proved the mutual desire in establishing new cooperation pillars that could meet the Egyptian and Iraqi peoples’ aspirations for prosperity and development.
It came in a suitable time to celebrate the Iraqi security achievements of restoring its lands from terror groups, Sisi said, stressing the importance of concerting all Arab and international efforts to uproot this phenomenon.
Welcoming Abdul Mahdi, Sisi said he realized during their talks a real desire to resume Iraq’s reconstruction process and build a new state for all the Iraqis, as well as reinforcing relations between Cairo and Baghdad.
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said that his talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi tackled several dossiers as the coming Arab Summit was scheduled to be held by end of March.
They agreed on starting preparations for convening the meetings of the Egyptian-Iraqi joint committee, under the prime ministers of the two states to discuss launching projects.
