Minister of Sports and Youth Ashraf Sobhi on Friday inspected the Giza Plateau that will witness the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON's) draw ceremony, set for April 12.
Sobhi also toured the main stage on which the tournament's drawing will be held, as well as the VIP area, lauding great efforts exerted by the tournament's organizing committee
Accompanied by President of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Hani Abu Reeda and the manager of the tournament's organizing committee Mohamed Fadl, the minister said the ceremony will be the best one to be organized in the African Football Confederation (CAF's) history, as it will reflect Egypt's potentials to hold any global sports event.
The political leadership fully believes that sports is one of the state's soft powers that makes difference, Sobhi said, pointing out that Egypt's hosting of the 32nd edition of AFCON coincides with Cairo's presidency of the African Union (AU) for 2019.
Egypt was granted hosting rights in January after planned host Cameroon was forced to stand down due to lack of preparation.
The Pharaohs are seeking to win the prestigious title for the first time since 2010, the last of their record seven victories.
It will take place from June 21 to July 13, having been moved from January/February to avoid club-versus-country clashes.
