President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s Statement to Islamic Summit

Friday، 31 May 2019 - 12:00 AM

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and King of Saudi Arabia Salman Ben Abdel Aziz,

Your Majesties, Excellencies and Highnesses,

Your Excellency Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Dr. Youssef Ben Ahmed Al-Othaemen, Peace and Mercy of Allah Be Upon You,

It gives me pleasure to be here in this sacred place “Makka al-Mokarama” in these blessing days of the great month of Ramadan. I would like to extend my appreciation and thanks to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for hospitality and good organization and his keenness to boost joint Islamic action.

Our time-honored organization will celebrate its 50th anniversary next September. This must be an important opportunity to evaluate our action and study means of promotion of the organization’s mechanisms to keep pace with the modern age and requirements of peace and development for our peoples.

I am interested to assert that Egypt won’t spare effort to enhance the Organization of Islamic Cooperation being the umbrella of the Islamic joint action in all fields.

Your Majesties, Excellencies and Highnesses,

Many years ago, Egypt has launched a call to increase the joint efforts to uproot the phenomenon of terrorism totally and reject the attempts to connect it with a certain religion or culture or ethnic.

Let’s state it clearly, it’s unacceptable…to try to pin terrorism and extremism on our noble religion, which is innocent [of them].

The OIC has a dual mission: to combat Islamophobia, including discrimination and hate discourse against Muslims; and to fight terrorism and related extremist discourse by those who exploit religion and defame its image and tolerant teachings.

Egypt is keen to participate in the initiatives by the organization believing that the size of challenges faced by the Muslim world call for unity and a unified voice.

Without this unity, how will we be able to combat an unprecedented wave of instability, political and security tensions which sweep our Islamic world and threaten to undermine its leadership and associations and transform it from a cooperation welcoming space to a space of polarization and rejection?”

Time is ripe to a decisive settlement to the Palestinian Question; this seven-decade long tragedy, through coming back to the negotiation table to end the occupation and give the Palestinian people its legal rights. This is the sole way for the fair peace in the area. Moreover, it will block the terrorists’ bidding in the Palestinians’ suffering.

There are massive challenges in Libya where the terrorists, militias, mercenaries and foreign interferences are spreading, in Syria where 8-year long civil war and regional violations are committed, in Yemen which has been suffering from the Houthi group that is supported by a foreign party, in Sudan and Algeria which pass through a critical stage.

In this context, I don’t miss to point to the concerning situation of the Moslem Rohingya. We call on the international community to bear responsibility to avert falling in a vicious circle of extremism, terrorism and violence, so time is ripe to end this suffering.

Your Majesties, Excellencies and Highnesses,

Within Egypt’s interest to interact with the mechanisms of OIC, keeping pace with the new challenges in our time and confirming the priority we give to the social and cultural issues mainly empower and enhancing the women’s role, Egypt was keen to host the headquarters of women organization in Cairo. We are looking forward it will be an important window to consolidate women’s role in the Islamic world and benefit from the Egyptian experiment in the political and societal participation played by the women. Egypt will host the Islamic ministerial women conference in 2020.

I have no doubts that our summit will match the challenges and represent an important step on the way of joint coordination and action in a way that meets our peoples’ ambitions.

May Allah render our efforts a success for the interest of the Islamic nation.

Peace and Mercy of Allah Be Upon You
