Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday met German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the sidelines of the G7 summit held in France.

Sisi praised Egyptian-German ties in all fields, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.

The Egyptian leader stressed that Cairo is keen on enhancing bilateral cooperation and political consultations with Berlin on different regional and international issues in light of Egypt’s current chairmanship of the African Union and Germany’s membership at the UN Security Council.

Merkel lauded strong and deeply-rooted ties between Egypt and Germany, particularly in the economic and commercial fields.

The Chancellor asserted that Egypt is one of the most important partners for Germany in the Middle East.

Sisi and Merkel also discussed means to strengthen cooperation between both countries in Africa and mulled a number of regional and international issues, particularly the Libyan crisis.
