President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received on Saturday October 12, 2019 an invitation from South Sudanese President Salva Kiir to attend the inaugural session of peace negotiations in South Sudan.
This came during Sisi's meeting with South Sudanese Minister of Energy Dhieu Mathok in the presence of Head of the General Intelligence Directorate Abbas Kamel, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.
Juba is expected to host a session of the peace negotiations between a delegation of the Sudanese interim government and armed groups in mid-October.
The session comes as a continuation of the Egypt-sponsored meeting, held in September in Ain Sokhna, among the main armed groups in Sudan (Sudan Revolutionary Front). The meeting tackled preparations for starting talks with Sudan's government.
Sisi asked Mathok to convey his greetings to the South Sudanese president, thanking him for the invitation, which comes as part of Egypt's efforts to support Sudan's stability.
Cairo will boost cooperation with Juba and provide it with aid and technical support to push the development process there, the president stressed.
