President Sisi’s Statement at Inaugural Session of Russia-Africa Summit

Monday، 28 October 2019 - 01:47 PM

Mr. President of the Federal Russia Vladimir Putin,

Your Majesties, Highnesses and Excellencies Heads of State and Government,

Mr. Chairperson of African Union Commission Moussa Faki,

At the outset, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to President Vladimir Putin, the friendly people of Federal Russia and splendid Sochi City for hospitality and good organization, the African delegations have found since arrival in Russia. I also extend my thanks to all parties that organized this first edition of Africa-Russia summit.

It gives me pleasure to address this important forum before this distinguished gathering on the Federal Russia soil which is a key player on the international arena and one of the most important friends to our African continent. The African-Russian cooperation has taken long strides since mid last century that witnessed Russia’s solidarity with the African countries in their struggle against imperialism, and its material and logistic contribution supporting the African liberation movements.

For years, the African and Russian peoples share several bases of cooperation, aspirations and challenges.

We meet today in the first summit that groups our African continent countries and Federal Russia under the slogan “For Peace, Security and Development” after three months of the Extraordinary Summit of African Union held in Niamey on July 7, 2019, that witnessed launching of the Free African Trade Agreement, which announced executive tools of the enforcement of the agreement.

This agreement is considered one of the pillars of African Union Development Agenda 2063 which targets raising competitiveness of the continent and attracts foreign investments to the high-priorities sectors mainly industry energy, agriculture and information and communication technology.

The African Union countries seek building over the tangible economic growth taken place in the continent during the past ten years, especially through proceeding forward to achieve integrity by finishing all projects. Moreover, the African countries are exerting major efforts to draw out frames for governance of companies and capital markets in a way that leads to achieve more stable markets and attraction of foreign investors.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We realize the challenges that face stability in Africa. Our ambitious plan to silence guns as of 2020 may be a key step to fulfil this sublime target. Within this framework, there is a dire need to support the African Union’s policy for reconstruction and development in post-disputes phase, and activities of Egypt-based African Union Centre in this regard.

Out of this concept, we confirm our commitment to interact with the international and regional parties in the light of our understanding of the principles of respecting the international law, equity in sovereignty, non-interference in others’ internal affairs, solving disputes peacefully and upholding values of the multilateral action. We all have to remember that counter terrorism has a top priority of the world and African peace and security agenda.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Africa is open to cooperate with all partners. Through our summit, we hope to lay the foundation stone of Russia-Africa cooperation for the coming years in the trade, industrial, social, cultural and educational fields within a win-to-win frame.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I don’t miss the opportunity to announce that Egypt plans to launch the first edition of Aswan peace and sustainable development forum on December, 11-12,2019. It will stand as a regional and international platform that groups politicians, intellectuals, peace makers and partners of development. Actually, Aswan represents Egypt’s African identity.

I seize this opportunity to invite President Vladimir Putin and Presidents of the African States to participate in its activities and discussions to enrich interaction around its main topics.

Allah’s Peace, Mercy and Blessings Be Upon You.
