World Health Organization representative in Egypt John Jabbour affirmed that no cases of new coronavirus have been reported in the country, saying that the Egyptian Health Ministry has taken all necessary preventive measures.
Speaking to MENA on Thursday, Jabbour said that he keeps in daily contact with Health Minister Hala Zayed and the ministry's preventive medicine sector to follow up any developments.
Jabbour commended the Health Ministry's efforts to deal with the virus, through examining incoming travelers at all harbors and airports, noting that advisory preventive guidance measures were issued to all health directorates for educating citizens about the epidemic.
The deadly pneumonia-like disease was first identified on Dec. 31 in the Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei province. It has since spread beyond Wuhan, population 11 million, to other major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Macau, and Hong Kong. Around the world, Thailand and Vietnam have confirmed multiple cases, and the United States, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, and Japan have each reported one case.
Over 500 people have been infected across China, with total deaths rising to at least 17, as the mystery disease continues to spread.
