Egypt won the chairmanship of the Committee on Tourism and Sustainability (CTS) for two years, as of January 2020, while Serbia gained the committee’s vice-president seat.
Deputy Tourism and Antiquities Minister Ghada Shalaby chaired the meeting of CTS in Madrid, where she expounded Egypt’s efforts for boosting the sustainable tourism to meet the UNSDGs.
In 2007, Egypt launched a project to transform the hotels into environmentally-friendly entities and encourage the hotels to obtain the Green Star Hotel (GSH) certificate, she added.
The Committee on Tourism and Sustainability (CTS) was established with the aim of replacing the former Sustainable Development of Tourism Committee (SDTC).
A high-ranking delegation from the Tourism and Antiquities Ministry, under Shalaby, is currently participating in the 40th edition of FITUR Travel Fair in the Spanish capital, Madrid, that will last till January 26.
The FITUR Madrid 2020 is considered the third largest after the Berlin and London Stock Exchange exhibitions.
