Launch of project Jabal al-Jalalah road & city
A new project to be added to the list of the major enterprises initiated by President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, the Jabal al-Jalalah project is to be implemented by civilian companies under the supervision of the Engineering Authority of the Egyptian Armed Forces. The project includes the establishment of the Jalalah City, the King Abdullah University and a tourist resort overlooking the Gulf of Suez in addition to al-Ayn al-Sokhna-al-Zaafaranah road.
There are 53 civilian companies working in cooperation with the Armed Forces, 40 of which specialize in road construction, 5 in industrial constructions, bridges, tunnels, culverts and toll stations and 8 in resort –building. 15.000 workers, technicians and engineers are working in close cooperation and under the supervision of the Engineering Authority.
Choice Of Site
The Jabal al-Jalalah has been chosen to be the site of this project, given its unique location and also because it is rich in minerals especially marble. The road currently being dug into the mountain should help facilitate moving raw materials from and to quarries.
Geographic Nature
Al-Jalalah Plateau is part of the series of mountains located west of the Red Sea, facing al -Hijaz Mountains in Saudi Arabia. It runs steep downwards toward the Red Sea, and gradually on the inside. The plateau represents the western edge of the Red Sea Rift.
The al-Jalalah Mountain consists of archaic rocks rich in mineral strains. Between the northern (rising 1223 meters) and southern (1472 meters) plateaus and within the al-Jalalah Plateau itself run numerous valleys.
Al-Jalalah Tourist Resort
Stretching across 1000 feddans (increasable in future), the resort is to overlook the Gulf of Suez.
It includes two hotels; the first is built on al-Jalalah Mountain and consists of 300 rooms and 40 chalets. The other is a coastal hotel consisting of 300 rooms, chalets and a marina.
Project implementation began in October 2015; completion date is set for July 2017.
A 150.000 cubic meter water desalination station will all also be built to serve the resort.
Al-Jalalah International City
Built on the highest point of al-Jalalah Plateau, between al-Ayn al-Sokhna and al-Zaafaranah, rising 700 meters above sea level, it stretches 17.000 feddans. The city will include an international medical city, an Olympic village, tourist and low income residential areas and services.
King Abdullah Bin Abdelaziz University
The King Abdullah bin Abdelaziz University stretches over some 100 feddans in al-Jalalah International City.
The most advanced and update methods of teaching and management will be used in the non-conventional specializations needed in Egypt.
Sokhna-Zaafaranah road
The Sokhna-Zaafaranah road is a two-way 6-lane-in-all project which is part of the Egypt-Africa road.
From south Port Said it runs 92 kms until the Ismailia desert road then cuts across the Suez-Sokhna road at Huggul Valley area, bending south towards km 10 in Bani Sweif on the Bani Sweif-Zaafaranah road.
The road will also stretch 82 kms until it reaches west Hurghada, west Safaga, Abu-Ramad, and then Halayeb and Shalateen towards the area of Bir fourkit at latitude 22 degrees on the Egypt-Sudan international boundary.
New industrial zone
The industrial zone, built on the fringe of the Sokhna-Zaafaranah road, includes a phosphate fertilizer plant, the production capacity of which is set at 1 million tons a year. Project plans have been developed by the army. The purpose of the project is to maximize the use f the quarries, which is rich marble, kaolin, mud, and silica sand.
