President Abdel Fattah El Sisi witnessed on Tuesday 17/5/2016 the inauguration of the 1,000 megawatt power station in the Upper governorate of Assiut.

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and Defense Minister Sedqy Sobhy attended the event along with a number of top State officials.

Sisi said the total electricity production is expected to reach 4,400 megawatts by the end of the year.

During the inauguration, the President said the achievements reached in the electricity file are unprecedented and realized in a record time.

The President said that Dabaa nuclear station adheres to the world's highest security standards.

Sisi said it was unacceptable to allocate all this money for subsidizing electricity. These funds should have been reduced through control networks and it was necessary to implement a comprehensive electricity mechanism, which required providing 16 billion EGP, he said, noting that only 6 billion EGP was available for the purpose.

He highlighted the importance of improving services of the electricity sector.
