Egypt's participation in AU summit for maritime safety, development

Egypt participated with an Egyptian delegation in the ministerial meetings of an extraordinary African Union (AU) summit for security, maritime safety and development on October 14 - 15, 2016 in the continent in the Togolese capital of Lome.

The meetings discussed the AU draft charter, known as "Lome charter" which aims at boosting cooperation among African countries in the field of security and maritime safety and running sea resources.

Egypt's participation in the summit underscores the interests of the African continent including development efforts, the role of African partners to that effect and African countries' sovereignty over their sea resources and territorial waters.

The Egyptian participation in this important event emanates from its utmost interest to enhancing cooperation with countries of the continent in maritime transportation and combating organized crime, terrorism, sea piracy and illegal immigration and smuggling along with achieving sustainable development in Africa.

Transport Minister Galal Said led the Egyptian delegation to the summit on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
