Egypt pays great attention to boosting ties with all African states to achieve integration and common interests, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said on Thursday 19/04/2018.
In an interview with CBC Extra News channel, Shoukry said that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi since assuming office in 2014 has been keen to boost relations with African countries, as evidenced by his interest in supporting the basic infrastructure projects among African states to strengthen cooperation and increase the volume of inter-trade.
As for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, Shoukry said that Egypt did not receive any response from the Ethiopian and Sudanese sides to resume talks on the dam, stressing that Cairo will not accept "arm-twisting" policy.
Egypt agrees on an initial report prepared by a consultancy firm on planned technical studies of the dam's potential impact on Egypt and Sudan, Shoukry added.
Minister Shoukry denied reports that Egypt hinders negotiations on the dam, saying that Cairo deals in a flexible and transparent way with regard to the technical studies.
Egypt seeks to expand in African markets through establishing mega projects and setting up companies in the Nile basin countries and in southern Africa, he noted.
The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) exerts efforts in capacity-building, in addition to providing training courses and basic needs to several African states, Shoukry underlined.
Cairo is interested in following up challenges facing African states, especially those related to security, development, health, education and women empowerment, Shoukry said.
Egypt plays a great role in the African Union (AU) activities and works on the rationalization of spending within it, Shoukry said.
Egypt will put forward a number of initiatives, with the aim of activating cooperation with AU states and overcoming different political, economic and social challenges, he stressed.
With regard to the Syrian crisis, Shoukry said that Egypt is keen on preserving the interest of the Syrian people, saying Cairo will keep contacting different parties to reach a political solution and achieve security and stability in the Arab country.
