The novel writing began in Egypt with" Eisa ibn-Hisham talk" by El-Moweilhy, "Zeinb" was published in 1914 by Dr.Mohamed Hussein Heikl and "Ibrahim el-Kateb" by Ibrahim Abd el-Qader el-Mazni.
The most famous novelists in Egypt are:
Tawfik el-Hakim who wrote a lot of novels and plays as "Awdet el-Roh" The Return of the Soul, Isis, "Yowmeyat Na’eb fe al-Aryaf" Prosecutor’s diaries in the village.
Naguib Mahfouz is one of the prominent novelists in Egypt and he won Nobel Prize in Literature. Mahfouz’s writings are characterized by their realistic approach and his famous works are Zo’aa el-Mada’, Meramar, Abath el-Akdar, Rhodopis, Kifah Tiba, trilogy: "Bein Al Qasrein", " Qasr Al Shooq", and " Al Sukkaria".
In the modern age there are also a lot of famous novelists as Gamal el-Gheitani, Fathi Ghanem and Youssef el-Kaeed.
