The Regional Conference on Developing the Performance of Peace Operations started on Sunday 18/11/2018.
The event is organized by Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding.
The two-day event comes as part of Egypt's effective role in the field of peacekeeping.
The gathering will be held under the rubric "Regional Conference on Enhancing the Performance of Peacekeeping Operations: From Mandate to Exit".
The conference comes within a framework of Egypt's active role in peacekeeping and its contributions to UN peacekeeping operations.
Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs Ambassador Hamdi Loza, Japanese Ambassador in Cairo Masaki Noki, Specialist Director Peace Operations of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry
Anne Kjersti Froholm and UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix will be present at the event.
The conference is a platform for officials from the top troop and police-contributing countries from Africa and the Arab World to share their views on strengthening UN peacekeeping.
Participants will address key strategic and operational dimensions of performance across the various components of missions, including planning, leadership, readiness, and capacities.
Representatives of regional and international organizations such as the Arab League, African Union, United Nations will partake in the event alongside with delegates of officials from the
major states contributing military and police forces to peacekeeping operations.
Topics to be discussed
The event is to tackle a flurry of important issues related to peacekeeping operations along with boosting women participation in the peacekeeping operations.
