Sisi expresses keenness on boosting stability, development in South Sudan

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has expressed Egypt's keenness on achieving peace, stability and development in South Sudan.

In a press conference with South Sudanese president Salva Kiir at Ittihadia palace on Thursday, president Sisi said that Egypt was one of the first countries that supported South Sudan.

Sisi said his talks with Kiir reflected the two countries' keenness on cementing relations and cooperation with South Sudan in all fields to reach a strategic partnership.

President Sisi welcomed president Kiir and his accompanying delegation to Egypt, saying the two countries have real desire for cooperation between the two sides in favor of the two peoples.

President Sisi welcomed an official invitation from president Kiir to visit South Sudan, expressing the keenness on the stability and security of South Sudan.

The president stressed the importance of boosting relations and strategic partnership between the two countries to make use of economic cooperation and investments available in the two countries.

President Sisi said talks between the two sides tackled viewpoints and coordination on regional issues of mutual concern.

The president praised the South Sudan peace agreement saying it opened the door to stability, reconstruction and development, pointing out that Egypt will remain a supporter for South Sudan's efforts to achieve peace.

He said cooperation between the two sides will boost education, health, agriculture and irrigation fields through existing mechanisms.

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir lauded on Thursday efforts by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to bring about peace and stability in South Sudan.

Kiir extended an invitation to President Sisi to visit his country in May to attend a ceremony marking the formation of a national unity government.

At a joint press conference with Sisi, Kiir expressed thanks to President Sisi for inviting him to visit Egypt and for the warm reception he received since his arrival.

He said talks with Sisi covered steps to put into effect the South Sudan peace agreement, saying the deal is not the best but it will certainly lead to positive developments in South Sudan.

He thanked the Egyptian government for the assistance it offered to South Sudan during the time of war, especially treating the wounded at Egyptian military hospitals and helping the South Sudan government carry the bodies of war victims from Juba to their final resting place.

He added that the government will deal with the rebels who refused to sign the deal.

Kiir expressed keenness on furthering relations with Egypt at all levels.

Egypt has been a home to us even before the independence, Kiir said.

At the end of the press conference, Sisi said he is looking forward to visiting South Sudan.
