FM takes part in 1st day meetings of AU Executive Council

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Thursday 07/02/2019 participated in the first-day activities of the 34th ordinary session of the African Union's Executive Council at the level of foreign ministers.
The two-day session is taking place in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
Shoukry took part in several meetings to discuss a number of reports on the activities of the AU and its affiliated agencies, in addition to the AU Commission's report on the humanitarian situation in Africa, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said.
The ministers also discussed political files related to the continent's peace and security issues, topped by the conditions in Libya, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
They also touched upon a report compiled by the AU permanent representatives during their meeting last month and another report prepared by the commission on the countries nominated to host the future headquarters of the African space agency.
The agenda of the talks also included reports about member states' financial quotas and contributions to AU activities, challenges of endorsement of AU conventions, and the implementation of resolutions and recommendations in connection with the International Criminal Court.
The ministers will continue their meetings on Friday to submit their decisions to the African heads of state to be approved during their summit on Sunday and Monday.
