Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli checked on Thursday 12/09/2019 the leather tanneries hub in the Cairo suburb of Sur Magra El Oyoun to follow-up progress achieved in the relocation process of the workshops to Robeiki leather city in Badr compound, in preparation for kick starting the renovation.
Local Development Minister Mahmoud Sharaawy, Housing Minister Assem el Jazzar as well as Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal accompanied the premier on the tour.
Madbouli was briefed on progress achieved in the renovation of Sur Magra El Oyoun area where 1,076 facilities and 454 residential buildings have been removed, while 771 families have been resettled.
The premier issued directives to expedite the removal process in the area and pave the way for the restoration.
"We have a historic opportunity to revamp Cairo in line with the instructions of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in this regard that entail compensating those affected with residential units," the prime minister said.
The idea of the renovation is based on creating an axis that links the north and south geographically through merging a number of trade, handicraft, touristic and cultural activities along that axis to preserve the historic theme of Cairo, housing minister Jazzar said.
The project will give visitors opportunity to see over 313 registered archaeological sites across Cairo, Jazzar added.
