Egyptian Ambassador to France Ehab Badawi said that President of the French Senate Gérard Larcher paid tribute to the religious and historical status enjoyed by the Orthodox Church.
Speaking to MENA on Friday 18/10/2019, the ambassador added that the French senator praised Egypt's pivotal role in strengthening the Middle East's security and stability, as well as its efforts to counter terrorism.
Larcher's remarks came during a meeting with Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese, in the presence of the Egyptian ambassador.
For his part, the pontiff thanked the French senator for the warm reception that reflects the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries.
Also, Pope Tawadros told Larcher that the Coptic Orthodox Church supports Egypt's efforts in the fight against terrorism and extremism, denouncing all terrorist attacks that aim to tear apart the national unity and sow sedition among different categories of the Egyptian society.
The pope briefed the French senator on the government's efforts to restore churches affected by terror acts, noting that Egyptian Muslims and Copts are keen to live together in peace, love and brotherhood.
