Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa has ordered the closure of all mosques and the suspension of Friday and other congregational prayers for two weeks as of Saturday over coronavirus concerns.

In a press statement on Saturday 21/03/2020, the ministry said that the decision also includes changing the wording of Azan (call to prayer), to urge citizens to perform the five daily prayers at home.

The decision comes in line with precautionary measures taken by the state to combat the novel coronavirus, the statement added.
