Saturday، 25 April 2020 - 10:58 PM

Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa said Saturday 25/04/2020 his ministry has spent EGP six billion on renovating 3,183 mosques over the past six years for the first time in Egypt's history.

In the same period, many local and international Holy Quran competitions were organized, while 1,170 Quranic schools, 2,505 memorization offices and 69 centers for training memorizers were opened; a matter that had never happened in any other country before, he added in a statement.

The temporary suspension of prayers at mosques aims to protect human lives and was taken upon specialized medical opinions, the minister said.

The same matter happened in the Arab and Islamic countries in light of decisions taken by the health ministries in all countries to suspend gatherings in order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, he added.

In preparation for the reopening of mosques, over 300,000 square meters of carpets have been prepared, a major plan for continuous cleaning and sterilization has been developed and the National Endowment Investments Group has been tasked to rapidly manufacture sterilization booths, the minister said.

“We pray that the epidemic will end soon,” he added.
