Saturday، 06 June 2020 - 02:23 PM

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said on Saturday 06/06/2020 that Chief Commander of the Libyan Armed Forces Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar and Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives Aguila Saleh affirmed their willingness to achieve the will of the Libyan people.
They asserted that the sovereignty of Libya and its unity should be protected, pointing out that an agreement was reached to end the Libyan conflict.
During a joint press conference with Haftar and Saleh, Sisi thanked them for coming to Egypt and welcomed the ambassadors as well as representatives of foreign countries concerned with the Libyan crisis.
Sisi stressed that both Libyan leaders "have proved over the course of their meetings in Cairo - which took place during the previous days - their keenness on meeting the desire of the Libyan people."
"The both leaders have shown responsibility and a patriotic attitude that resulted in reaching a joint and comprehensive political initiative meant to put an end to the Libyan conflict," Sisi said during the press conference.
"The success of the initiative will constitute the start of a new phase towards restoring the peaceful and secured life to Libya," he said.
President Sisi said he is proud to announce the Libyan initiative from Egypt, which he said worked for years to end the suffering of the Libyan people and restore security and stability in Libya.
The President said this meeting is of great importance in light of the recent developments in Libya.
He warned that the current critical situation in Libya also affects the security of the neighboring countries, and the whole world.
The President also expressed concerns about actions of some parties in Libya despite efforts exerted by countries concerned in the past few years to reach a solution for the Libyan crisis.
The President stressed that Egypt totally rejects any military solution in Libya.
President Sisi said Egypt is following up the latest developments in Libya, adding that Cairo totally condemns all sorts of escalation that may harm Libya and the region.
There is no stability in Libya without reaching a peaceful settlement that guarantees the unity and safety of the national institutions that will be able to shoulder their responsibility towards the Libyan people, he said.
The President added that he invited Saleh and Haftar to visit Cairo to discuss the latest developments in Libya out of Egypt’s keenness on achieving political and security stability in Libya.
The meeting resulted in launching the Cairo Declaration, which includes a Libyan-Libyan initiative as a basis for settling the Libyan crisis within the framework of the UN resolutions and previous meetings held in Paris, Rome, Abu Dhabi and Berlin, Sisi said
President Sisi noted that the initiative calls for a ceasefire in Libya starting 06:00 a.m. on Monday, while respecting all international and UN initiatives to maintain Libya's unity.
The initiative also obliges all foreign parties to kick foreign mercenaries out of the country as well as dismantling militias and forcing them to hand over their weapons in order to allow the Libyan national army to cooperate with the security authorities to protect the country.
Egypt hopes that all regional and international parties would support this initiative to end the Libyan crisis, he added.
