Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry asserted that the experts' committee concerning the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam would finalize its tasks within two weeks.
In televised statements, the top diplomat added Friday 26/06/2020 that the committee is expected to reach a legal deal obligating all parties not to make any unilateral decisions regarding the dam.
The AU-sponsored track reflects Egypt’s will to reach a deal after ten-year negotiations, he noted, adding that other parties shall show a political will to reach an agreement that respects the three countries' interests.
The UN Security Council is expected to discuss the file on Monday upon Egypt's request, the minister underlined, noting that Cairo is working at the African and international levels through the African Union and the United Nations to settle the issue.
Shoukry pointed out that the required deal aims at fulfilling Ethiopia’s interests and developmental goals, as well as guaranteeing Egypt and Sudan rights and interests.
He also underlined that Egypt has always worked within a political framework to reach solutions to any issues or crises.
