The higher committee comprising the irrigation and agriculture ministers held its 25th meeting on Monday 10/8/2020 to discuss a host of topics related to agriculture and irrigation and iron out hurdles facing them.
In a statement, the ministry said the meeting discussed ongoing efforts to apply modern irrigation techniques, including drip, sprinkle and underground irrigation, in a bid to rationalize irrigation water consumption.
They called for listing all violators who refrain from applying modern irrigation systems.
Participants in the meeting said directives were given to owners of new or reclaimed lands to apply modern irrigation techniques.
The meeting also tackled a decision to cut down size of lands allocated for water-consuming crops like rice, banana and sugar cane.
