Japan contributes $ 8 mln to Grand Egyptian Museum project - A diplomat

Japanese Ambassador to Egypt Masaki Noke said on Monday 10/8/2020 that his country contributes 8 million dollars to the Grand Egyptian Museum, which he described as the largest archaeological museum in the world.

The diplomat said this is Japan's highest cultural cooperation in the world, adding that Japan also offers modern technology for the museum management and monument restoration.

Japan will continue cooperation with Egypt till the museum is opened next year, he said.

He lauded the efforts of Egyptian workers who are working hard despite the hot weather and coronavirus outbreak.

Construction of the museum was set to be completed in the first quarter of 2020 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the museum is now scheduled to open in 2021.

The museum will display 50,000 artifacts but the main attraction is that it will exhibit the full Tutankhamun collection with many pieces to be displayed for the first time.
