The Interior Ministry announced on Friday that terrorist Muslim Brotherhood leader Mahmoud Ezzat was arrested.
The ministry added in a statement that the operation comes as part of its efforts for confronting hostile plots against the safety and stability of the homeland.
The ministry added it received information that the terrorist leader is hiding inside a house in the Fifth District in Cairo despite rumors by MB leaders that he was living outside the country to mislead the security agency.
The arrested terrorist leader was in charge of setting up the armed wing of the terrorist organization and was overseeing terrorist operations that were committed by the MB organization in Egypt after June 30 Revolution, added the statement.
He was involved in many terrorist operations such as the assassination of attorney general Hisham Barakat in 2015, the assassination of Brigadier Wael Tahoun in 2015 and the assassination of Brigadier Adel Ragai in 2016 along with attacking the National Cancer Institute with a booby-trapped car in 2019 leaving 20 people dead and 47 others wounded.
All legal measures were adopted and the public prosecution has opened a probe, said the statement, adding that the Interior Ministry will continue confronting with all firmness all plots targeting the stability of the homeland.
