Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Thursday 17/9/2020 chaired a meeting to follow up the ongoing expansion works on the Rind Road.
The premier shed light on the importance of the project, which he said is expected to greatly contribute to relieving congestion in inner-city roads and increasing the flow of traffic in Greater Cairo.
The prime minister added that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi issued directives to finalize the project in a record time.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tareq el Molla, Minister of Housing Assem el Gazzar, Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir, Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal, and Giza Governor Ahmed Rashed, among others.
The transport minister said the General Authority for Roads, Bridges and Land Transport (GARBLT) is working to expand the Ring Road to include seven lanes in each direction, with a width of 60 meters.
A sum of EGP 8 billion has been allocated to develop the 106-kilometer-long Ring Road, Wazir added.
The transport minister posted the prime minister on the obstacles facing the completion of development works on the Ring Road. These obstacles are related to the presence of electricity facilities, water and sewage lines and communication towers, as well as natural gas and oil lines.
At the end of the meeting, Madbouli assigned the ministers concerned to compile a study on the cost of relocating these facilities in order to finalize the project.
