Communications Minister says Huawei Technologies "strategic partner" to ICT sector

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has said that Huawei Technologies is a strategic partner to the Egyptian Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector, citing the ongoing cooperation with the Chinese telecom giant in the field of capacity-building and entrepreneurship.

Talaat made the remarks during his meeting with a high-profile delegation from the Chinese company led by Ryan Ding, Executive Director of the Board and President of Huawei's Carrier BG, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) said in a statement on Friday.

The two sides discussed means of boosting bilateral cooperation in a number of areas, notably the development of communication and internet services, capacity-building and supporting entrepreneurship, as well as establishing data centers, the statement read.

Talaat told Ryan that his ministry is providing training scholarships to develop technical skills of independent professionals, the statement added.

On his part, Ryan said that Huawei highly appreciates its strategic partnership with the Egyptian government, hailing the great support offered by the MCIT to the Chinese company.

They also probed the possibility of building an advanced technological innovation laboratory for computing and data analysis at the Sultan Hussein Kamel Palace's creativity complex in Heliopolis district, north east of Cairo.

The meeting tackled the progress made within the framework of the cooperation agreement between the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI) and the Chinese telecom giant to train 10,000 young people on digital transformation technologies.
