Finance Ministry acts to complete customs automation project

Monday، 19 October 2020 - 01:06 PM

Finance Minister Mohamed Ma'eet said Monday that his Ministry is racing against time to complete a national project to update and automate the customs system at all land, maritime and airport terminals.

It is part of efforts to implement digital transformation and establish the one-stop-shop system, Ma'eet said in a statement.

Once completed, the project will help ease customs procedures in a way hoped to improve Egypt's rating where performance of international business is concerned, the minister noted.

Logistics centers in Cairo, West and East Port Said and Ain Sokhna have already started operation, Ma'eet said, noting that similar centers should start working in Alexandria late October, Damietta in November and Dekhaila in January.

This way 90 percent of Egypt's exports and imports will be electronically managed in three months' time, thus contributing to promoting international trade, the minister said.

He added that this should also help improve Egypt's position on the indicator of logistics service performance.
