Shoukry, British FM review bilateral relations, files of mutual interest over phone

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call Thursday 19/11/2020 from British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to discuss issues pertaining to bilateral relations as well as regional and international files of common concern.

Both ministers tackled avenues for boosting bilateral cooperation, mainly as regards intensifying political consultation and pushing up trade exchange between the two sides, Spokesman for the ministry Ahmed Hafez said.

They also reviewed promoting cooperation in the economic and tourism fields in a way that serves the joint interests of both countries, Hafez added.

The phone conversation touched on preparations for a cooperation agreement that is to be signed between the two countries, in the wake of Britain's withdrawal from the European Union.

The two ministers asserted the importance of coordinating and intensifying efforts at the international level to reduce the health, economic and social impacts of the coronavirus.

Both sides also reviewed a number of Middle East-related issues, with Shoukry highlighting efforts exerted by the Egypt to reach comprehensive settlements that would help achieve aspired peace and stability in the region.

Shoukry and Raab exchanged views on ways of fostering cooperation in the fields of fighting terrorism and climate change.
