Egypt, Malawi discuss fostering trade, agriculture cooperation

Egyptian Ambassador to Malawi Hassan Ahmed Shawki discussed on Friday with Malawian Agriculture Minister Lobin Lowe means of implementing initiatives aiming at fostering trade between the two countries especially in the fields of fertilizers and tobacco.
In a press release, the Foreign Ministry said the meeting also discussed boosting cooperation in the fields of irrigation, agriculture and fisheries development.
The meeting comes after a successful visit paid by Lowe to Egypt in which he met his Egyptian counterpart El Sayed el Quseir as well as inspecting a number of Egyptian tobacco and fertilizers companies.
During the meeting, Shawki hailed the deep-rooted relations between the two countries as well their keenness to foster ties at the political, trade, investment, security and cultural levels.
Lobin said his country is keen on holding the first round of the Egyptian-Malawian joint committee as well as establishing the Egyptian-Malawian business and investment council. He also expressed appreciation for Egypt's support for Malawi especially in the capacity-building field.
