Cabinet dispels rumors about importing electric buses totally made overseas

The Cabinet’s media center denied Saturday news about importing foreign-made electric buses.
In a statement, the center said that it had contacted the Ministry of Military Production which categorically denied such news, noting that an Egyptian-Chinese partnership agreement signed in April 2019 aims to manufacture 2,000 electric buses within four years with the percentage of local component amounting to 45 percent.
Representatives of Egypt's IMUT company and Military Factory 200 have signed the deal the Chinese Foton Motor Company.
In addition, a national strategy also seeks to manufacture electric vehicles and promote their use in cooperation with relevant state bodies and major international companies with a view to boosting the local manufacturing of these vehicles and transform modern automotive technologies to the ministry's affiliated companies, the statement added.
The ministry urged visitors of social networking websites to seek verification of published news so as not to cause public confusion.
