Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Assem el Gazzar and Egyptian Ambassador to China Mohamed el Badry have witnessed via video conferencing the signing of a contract for completing works at the central business district project in the New Administrative Capital.
They have also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the management and operation of the project, the Ministry of Housing said in a statement Friday.
Gazzar thanked the Egyptian ambassador and the embassy staffers for their role and efforts to facilitate bilateral cooperation and understanding with the Chinese side, as well as to secure the contract.
He also expressed thanks to working teams from Egypt and China who are tasked with implementing such a key national project, the central business district, which he said is the first one of its kind in Egypt.
The minister noted that the project, to be implemented by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), is evidence of the strength of Cairo-Beijing relations and joint cooperation in the construction field.
The district shall house a 400-meter-tall iconic tower, which is set to be Africa’s tallest tower, Gazzar said.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian ambassador to China asserted his readiness, along with the embassy employees to exert their utmost efforts to cover aspects of Egypt-China cooperation in various fields.
He also congratulated the housing minister and China's CSCEC on inking the contract.
