Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UFM) Nasser Kamel said that the great efforts made by the Egyptian State to expand its production of renewable energy supports the UFM’s strategy to shift towards green economy and clean technology.
In statements to MENA on Monday, Kamel commended the strategy of sustainable and comprehensive energy in Egypt, as well as the solar and wind energy projects that have been implemented by the Egyptian government.
He also lauded Cairo’s rapid steps towards the aspired sustainable development, describing this as a model to follow in the region.
Kamel underscored the importance of the private sector’s participation in renewable energy projects, pointing in this regard to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)’s expansion in the use of renewable energy in Egypt; via funding the establishment of a solar photovoltaic power station at Dina Farms in Beheira governorate, 80 kilometers from Cairo.
This will stimulate the private sector to take part in development efforts in the Mediterranean region, he said.
