Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir on Sunday toured a number of development and service projects carried out by the ministry in Upper Egyptian governorates.
In a statement released on Sunday, Ministry of Transport said Wazir inspected implementation of work at Dayrout Axis on River Nile that will extend for 15 kilometers with a width of 21 meters.
The total cost of the project is estimated at EGP 1.7 billion, the statement said, adding that 86 percent of construction has been finalized.
The project includes 10 major bridges, two tunnels and one culvert, the statement said.
The minister asserted that Dayrout Axis contributes to linking the eastern desert road of Cairo-Assiut with the western agriculture road, crossing the River Nile and the railroad of Cairo-Aswan line.
Wazir also noted that the development of Upper Egypt governorates comes in implementation of the political leadership directives to introduce comprehensive development to the area, adding that 14 road axes are planned to be constructed in Upper Egypt to link between east and west of the Nile coasts and ease the movement of citizens and trade.
